TEACHER SPOTLIGHT: PAUL AND SHAMALA

Teachers are the ones who set the tone for a class and create an environment that fosters learning.
Finding a good teacher is one of the most important things a parent can do for their child. I Can Read is pleased to introduce two wonderful teachers from our Jurong East centre who have shown exceptional commitment and dedication to their students – Teacher Shamala and Teacher Paul.

Teacher Shamala attended Middlesex University in England. She graduated with honors from the School of Arts with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Studies. Prior to joining I Can Read, she spent 4 years working at local schools here in Singapore. When asked to sum up her teaching ethos, she gave this quote from Ignacio Estrada, “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” This really shows her dedication to a student-centered classroom. Out of the classroom, she loves traveling, photography, nature and cute furry animals.

Teacher Paul is one of our most experienced teachers. He studied at London Teacher Training College, Kaplan Singapore and International House Sydney. He holds a TESOL Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, a TYLT Certificate in Teaching English to Young Learners & Teenagers and a TESOL Certificate IV in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. He began teaching in 2011. He taught in China before moving to Singapore and since his arrival, he has worked in a variety of tuition and private education centers around the island. In class, he encourages his students to do their best and to reach their full potential. This mentality shows in his is favorite teaching quote. “Remember, you are stronger than you seem, braver than you believe and smarter than you think you are.” Out of class, Paul loves a good book, spending time with his family and cars.

If you would like to meet Paul and Shamala, stop by the centre. Our Jurong East centre is located at 135 Jurong Gateway Road, #03-339, S(600135). You can drop in anytime during opening hours, or contact the centre directly at (65) 6569 0712, to book an appointment for a Free Assessment.

CENTRE SPOTLIGHT: ORCHARD

A wonderful centre, located in Orchard Forum, with dedicated staff who are excited to be a part of your child’s learning experience. Keep reading to learn more about our amazing teachers!

Teacher Kamila has over five years of teaching experience.  Before I Can Read, Kamila gained experience teaching at Georgia Regents University and the University of South Carolina.  She also worked with children during her time as Director of the “Hear a Tale Project.”  Teacher Kamila’s teaching ethos is based on Loris Malaquzzi’s quote, “Our task, regarding creativity, is to help children climb their own mountains as high as possible. No one can do more.”

Teacher Ruby came to I Can Read from the United Kingdom where she worked with children and adults with speech, language and communication difficulties.  She is a graduate from the University of Sheffield with a BSc in Speech and Language Sciences.  Teacher Ruby’s teaching ethos is based on Roald Dahl’s quote, “If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books.”

Teacher Hannah comes to us from New Zealand where she studied Linguistics and Sociology at the University of Auckland.  She started working as a teacher in 2012 and has taught in New Zealand, England and Singapore.  She enjoys getting outside to go hiking and loves to read during her free time.  She believes the best teachers lead by example.

If you would like to meet any of our teachers or see our centre, drop by and say hello.  We are located at 583 Orchard Road, #07-04, Forum the Shopping Mall S(238884).
