CENTRE SPOTLIGHT: TAMPINES

I Can Read Tampines offers a safe and balanced learning environment
.  Read on to learn more about the centre and its friendly staff!

Kim Francis is one of I Can Read Singapore's most experienced teachers! Joining our family in 2008, Kim was the Senior Teacher at Bedok before taking on the role as our first teacher at our Tampines Centre. Kim is extremely dedicated to our programme and students. When asked what makes the I Can Read Programme so special, she replied "I believe the strength of the programme lies in the ability to prepare children to learn quickly and easily once they begin the Reading Course. When reading comes naturally, students ultimately read for enjoyment as opposed to necessity."

Susan Soh works at the centre part-time. Being a local Singaporean, she has insight on what is most needed for our students. She has previous experience as a teacher and trainer at various MOE schools and has also been an ESL teacher at LP Language School. Susan enjoys teaching the entire I Can Read Programme and her favourite course is Reading.

Teacher Nely was educated both in Canada and right here in Singapore! Her previous experience includes teaching at international schools at both Kindergarten and Primary level. Nely's teaching ethos is "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go."

Teacher Kieran came to Singapore from the UK.
He is a very dedicated educator and finds working with children enjoyable and rewarding His hobbies include scuba diving, travelling, cooking and reading.

Our Tampines Centre is located at 3 Tampines Central 1, #04-05, Abacus Plaza and can be reached by phone at (65) 6443 7134. If you're interested in learning more about the I Can Read Programme or meeting our staff, drop by today! Our teachers and staff would be happy to answer any questions you might have and would love to book you in for a free assessment.

I CAN READ WORKSHOP @ KIDZ AMAZE

Learn more about the literacy workshop conducted by I Can Raed at SAFRA Toa Payoh.

Literacy is something that all parents need to have a good understanding of in order to ensure that their children are being set on the path to success. On April 21st, 2018, I Can Read decided that it would try its hand at presenting the concepts and difficulties of literacy to the masses. We partnered with thenewageparents.com to conduct a literacy workshop at SAFRA Toa Payoh. The main focus was to give the parents a little advanced warning of some of the difficulties young learners have to overcome on the road to literacy and to show how the I Can Read system is geared to assist in this endeavour.

Over the course of the day, nearly 300 attendees came to our 3 presentations. The sessions ran just about an hour each. The attendees were first presented with some of the peculiarities of the English writing system, then with an overview of the ICR system and how it addresses these issues. It was all wrapped up with a question and answer session. And while the parents were being brought up to speed on the reality of modern phonetic methodology, the little people had their own table where they could express their creative leanings in the form of I Can Read Mother’s/ Father’s Day cards.

All in all, the event was a success. The parents were given the opportunity to see the curves in the road ahead and have their questions answered by people trained specifically to help kids read using modern phonetic techniques. The people at I Can Read were able to help direct the parents towards the best starting point for their kids’ trip down Reading Road. And lest we not forget, the kids were able to draw some beautiful cards to show their parents how much they love them. It really was a pretty great day.

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT

Meet Teacher Kristen from our HarbourFront centre.

Teacher Kristen came to Singapore from the US. She holds a BA degree in English from the University of Idaho. Kristen most enjoys teaching our Pre-Reading level 3 course. She feels that it is an interactive and fun class and students can make progress in a short period of time. Her teaching ethos is "Teachers who love teaching teach children to love learning".

Kristen's true passion is teaching, writing and yoga. She is a qualified yoga instructor, and she still teaches yoga classes in her free time.

If you would like to meet Teacher Kristen, stop by the centre. HarbourFront centre is located at 1 Maritime Square, #03-08, HarbourFront Centre, S(099253), and can be reached at (65) 6275 0500.

CENTRE SPOTLIGHT: MARINE PARADE

Get to know more about this centre located in Parkway Centre.

Teacher Christ holds a degree in Child Development and Family Services from Purdue University. Prior to working for I Can Read she worked in learning centres in Taiwan and Singapore. Her favourite course to teach is Pre-Reading 3 as it gives children the foundations necessary to become an independent reader. In her free time, Christa enjoys reading and diving.

Teacher Jenny is passionate about teaching and learning languages. Apart from English, she can speak French and Spanish. Jenny gained her teaching experience in Spain and Vietnam. Her teaching ethos is “Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better”. Jenny’s hobbies are photography and movies.

Isra’a came to Singapore from the UK. She has over two years of experience teaching in England and in Singapore. Isra’a thinks that the I Can Read Programme is beneficial for children because the class assignment is based on ability, not age. This leads to appropriate challenges for all students. Outside the classroom, Isra’a enjoys practising martial arts and painting.

Would you like an opportunity to meet the staff and teachers at Marine Parade? You're welcome to drop in anytime for a chat or contact the centre on (65) 6440 6115 to book an appointment with one of our teachers. The staff would love a chance to meet you and your child!

I Can Read with JOY

I Can Read is giving back to the community with JOY
(Joint Outreach for the Young)

I Can Read believes that English literacy and education in general should be available to everyone regardless of their economic or social standing. With that in mind, we are beginning a year-long Corporate Social Responsibility campaign in February 2017 with AMKFSC Community Services Limited (AMKFSC), a group dedicated to helping children from less-privileged families.

I Can Read considers itself fortunate and is proud to work with such a selfless and important organisation!

We will sponsor a class of 20 students by supplementing their studies with I Can Read courses. This initiative allows us to give back by supporting students with their studies, ensuring they have an enjoyable learning experience.

I Can Read will document the campaign on our Facebook page and we hope you'll join us as we embark on this journey of learning!
