Teacher Chris came to Singapore from the United States. He graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, with a degree in English. He enjoys reading and travelling, and both are reasons he moved to Taiwan and later Singapore to teach English and literacy. His teaching ethos is “learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere”.

Teacher Kristine holds a degree in Integrated Language Arts, with Teaching English as a Second Language. She has a wealth of experience gained in the US, China and Singapore. In her free time, Kristine likes browsing through bookstores, reading, buying blankets and playing the violin.

Teacher Tim came to Singapore from the UK. He taught English Literacy and Phonics in London primary schools and English conversation in India, Cambodia and Indonesia. In the classroom, Tim adapts his teaching practice to best support the needs of each child. He loves playing the guitar and exploring new places he has never been before.

Can Read and children from AMKFSC Community Service Ltd celebrated the completion of literacy courses sponsored by I Can Read Singapore.

On the 14th of December 2017, children from
AMKFSC Community Services Ltd, their parents and representatives of I Can Read Singapore gathered to celebrate the completion of the “I Can Read with JOY (Joint Outreach for the Young)” campaign.  The event was part of an ‘I Can Read Corporate Social Responsibility campaign’ and included the cooperation of AMKFSC Community Services Ltd, a community-based social service agency, which provides a holistic range of services to support children, youths, families and seniors at multiple touchpoints across Singapore.

During the yearlong campaign that started in February 2017, I Can Read sponsored a class of 20 students between the ages of 6 and 9, by supplementing their studies with I Can Read literacy courses. Apart from being a great success, the initiative allowed I Can Read to give back to the Singaporean community by supporting students from financially disadvantaged families and ensuring their journey to reading literacy was an enjoyable and rewarding one.

At the event students feasted on a buffet spread, snatched up some goodie bags and collected letters of commendation from I Can Read Executive Director, Mr Ngo Tong Yong. The children’s excitement was evident, and our staff was thrilled with the exceedingly positive feedback from AMKFSC’s staff and parents. One happy parent said “I hope I Can Read will continue with their programmes at AMKFSC, because my child has learned a lot from the teachers. His English grades have also improved tremendously.”

Encouraged by the positive experience and the significance of the cause, I Can Read and AMKFSC has decided to continue this campaign for the next two years. This initiative will also be extended to two Voluntary Welfare Organizations (VWO), namely Club Rainbow and Trans Family Services.

Stay tuned to our Facebook page as I Can Read will document the campaign and success of our next batch of deserving students!

I Can Read Tampines offers a safe and balanced learning environment
.  Read on to learn more about the centre and its friendly staff!

Kim Francis is one of I Can Read Singapore's most experienced teachers! Joining our family in 2008, Kim was the Senior Teacher at Bedok before taking on the role as our first teacher at our Tampines Centre. Kim is extremely dedicated to our programme and students. When asked what makes the I Can Read Programme so special, she replied "I believe the strength of the programme lies in the ability to prepare children to learn quickly and easily once they begin the Reading Course. When reading comes naturally, students ultimately read for enjoyment as opposed to necessity."

Susan Soh works at the centre part-time. Being a local Singaporean, she has insight on what is most needed for our students. She has previous experience as a teacher and trainer at various MOE schools and has also been an ESL teacher at LP Language School. Susan enjoys teaching the entire I Can Read Programme and her favourite course is Reading.

Teacher Nely was educated both in Canada and right here in Singapore! Her previous experience includes teaching at international schools at both Kindergarten and Primary level. Nely's teaching ethos is "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go."

Teacher Kieran came to Singapore from the UK.
He is a very dedicated educator and finds working with children enjoyable and rewarding His hobbies include scuba diving, travelling, cooking and reading.

Our Tampines Centre is located at 3 Tampines Central 1, #04-05, Abacus Plaza and can be reached by phone at (65) 6443 7134. If you're interested in learning more about the I Can Read Programme or meeting our staff, drop by today! Our teachers and staff would be happy to answer any questions you might have and would love to book you in for a free assessment.

Help the less privileged members of our community and stand a chance to win amazing prizes!

I Can Read with JOY (Joint Outreach for the Young) is an initiative which supports children from financially disadvantaged families by giving them free I Can Read lessons. By enhancing their studies with our literacy courses, we hope to nurture their love of reading and generally improve their academic performance. Most importantly, we want to give back to society in the best way that we can – by teaching children to read!

Research has shown that children who come from low-income families are required to do a considerable amount of housework. We want the next generation to empathise with these children by experiencing some everyday chores and we want you to film them!

Upload a 30-second video to this page of your child(ren) doing housework on Instagram. For every 5 videos that are posted, we will sponsor a child from a financially disadvantaged family by providing free I Can Read lessons. As well as helping the less privileged members of our community, you’ll stand a chance to win some amazing prizes!

I Can Read with JOY

I Can Read is giving back to the community with JOY
(Joint Outreach for the Young)

I Can Read believes that English literacy and education in general should be available to everyone regardless of their economic or social standing. With that in mind, we are beginning a year-long Corporate Social Responsibility campaign in February 2017 with Ang Mo Kio Family Services Centre (AMKFSC), a group dedicated to helping children from less-privileged families.

I Can Read considers itself fortunate and is proud to work with such a selfless and important organisation!

We will sponsor a class of 20 students by supplementing their studies with I Can Read courses. This initiative allows us to give back by supporting students with their studies, ensuring they have an enjoyable learning experience.

I Can Read will document the campaign on our Facebook page and we hope you'll join us as we embark on this journey of learning!

Meet Teacher Eve from Novena centre.

Meet Teacher Eve from New Zealand!  She graduated from the University of Otago in New Zealand with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.  She acquired a TEFL with the Bridge TEFL Language, Education & Travel program.  She has taught all ages while teaching in South Korea for two years and at a language camp in France.  She has been with us
at I Can Read Novena since last March.

Eve enjoys helping children realise their phonics skills and being a part of the transformation they go through when learning to read. Her passion draws from her love for reading since she was very young herself. She believes that in the right environment, not only can a child learn to read, they can also see reading as fun and enjoyable.

Along with reading, some of Eve’s interest include travelling, hiking, the outdoors, and being around family.

If you would like to meet Teacher Eve stop by the centre. Novena centre is located at 101 Thomson Road, #01-41/ 42, United Square, S(307591), and can be reached at (65) 6397 7134.
