Reopening of I Can Read Learning Centres

As we enter Phase 2 of Singapore’s Covid-19 response, I Can Read is very pleased to announce that our Learning Centres will be reopening and physical classes will resume on 29 June 2020.

While we are all very excited to return to some level of normalcy, the health and safety of our staff, our students and our parents are of the utmost importance. With that in mind and in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Multi-Ministry Task Force, I Can Read will be implementing certain measures for the reopening of our Learning Centres to provide a safe environment for learning.

I Can Read will make adjustments to the schedule to minimise crowding in and around the centre. Please understand that these efforts may affect the timing of your child’s lesson and we do apologise for any inconvenience caused.
  • We will implement staggered starting times for lessons in order to reduce overcrowding of parents and students waiting at the centre. More information on this will be provided by your Learning Centre.
  • There will be a 30-minute break between each lesson to allow for orderly dismissals of students and proper sanitization of the classrooms.
  • Parents are asked to drop off their child(ren) no more than 10 minutes before class.
  • Parents are asked to pick up their child(ren) no more than 10 minutes after class.

In order to allow for safe distancing, our Learning Centres have undergone several layout changes. Phase 2 requires individuals to remain at least 1 metre apart at all times.
  • Our classrooms have been reconfigured so students will be seated 1 metre apart from their classmates and Teacher.
  • Waiting areas will be available for parents and students prior to their lesson. These will be clearly marked with safety tape to indicate designated areas at each Learning Centre.

I Can Read will take additional safety precautions to ensure we limit the risk of spreading infection. These include:

  • Centre staff, parents and students will be required to wear face masks at all times while in our Learning Centres. We understand that this may be a challenge for some of our younger students and our Teachers have been instructed accordingly in order to encourage students to continually wear their masks.
  • Teachers and centre staff will have their temperature taken twice daily. Those feeling unwell will be asked to go home.
  • Teachers and centre staff who are unwell will be asked to stay home. Students who are unwell should also stay at home.
  • Classroom and centre surfaces will be cleaned thoroughly between each lesson. All stationery and manipulatives will also be wiped down and sanitised. Students are encouraged as much as possible to bring their own stationery to class (e.g. pencils, erasers, coloured pencils, etc).
  • Hand sanitiser will be available in each classroom. Please also have your child(ren) have access to their own personal bottle.
  • Learning activities will be adjusted to minimise contact between the teacher and students. We have developed some extra fun games to ensure the little ones stay safe and enjoy learning from a safe distance.
  • The centre library will be closed until further notice. Please continue reading together at home to build positive memories with books.
  • We encourage parents to make contactless payment via our Student Portal to minimise entry into the centre.

Transition time between lessons will be carefully managed to ensure there is little-to-no cross contamination of classes. As such, we will adhere to the following:

  • Temperature screenings and hand sanitisation will take place for anyone entering the Learning Centre.
  • SafeEntry Registration posters will be posted outside of the centres. Please be sure to scan the QR code when entering and exiting. Kindly also see the email circular from your specific Learning Centre with the unique QR code. Scanning this will allow you to keep your distance from the front door of the centre.
  • Tape will be used outside of the centres to indicate designated spots where parents should queue for drop off and pick up.
  • Handover and pick up will be done outside of our front doors as much as possible.
  • Handwashing and safe distancing will take place on all toilet breaks. Parents are asked to take their child(ren) to the toilet before lesson begins.

  • Check with your centre about the adjusted timings of classes.
  • Come only 10 minutes before class; Pick up no later than 10 minutes after class.
  • Take your child(ren) to the toilet before lesson starts.
  • Ensure you and your child(ren) have facemasks that fit.
  • Place an additional mask in your child(ren)’s bag as a back-up.
  • Speak to your child(ren) about safe distancing.
  • Have your child(ren) bring their own stationery and water bottle to class.
  • If you or your child(ren) are unwell, please stay at home. Replacement lessons can be arranged

We appreciate your effort and teamwork in providing a safe and rewarding learning environment! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your nearest Learning Centre. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Resumption of classes at I Can Read Learning Centres in Singapore

The Multi-Ministry Taskforce announced on 15 June 2020 (Mon) that Phase Two of the post-Circuit Breaker period will start after 18 June 2020, 2359 HRS (Thu). With effect from 19 June 2020 (Fri), enrichment providers like I Can Read will be allowed to resume face-to-face operations in our centre premises.

We understand that you are eagerly waiting for our Learning Centres to reopen to have your children resume their lessons. We are indeed excited to resume our physical operations but the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. Thus, I Can Read has decided not to rush into reopening our centres. We will instead take these two weeks to implement all the necessary measures to ensure that our centres are a safe environment for your child’s learning and will only resume physical classes from 29 June 2020 (Mon) onwards.

Meanwhile, all classes will continue to be conducted online via our I Can Read Web-Class platform with “live” lessons till 28 June 2020 (Sun). The current discount for the course fees will continue to apply until the above-mentioned date.

While there have been some hiccups in the initial period when we move to web classes, we are very invigorated with the positive feedback gathered from the recent survey on our online lessons. Encouraged by your support, from 29 June 2020 (Mon) onwards, in addition to centre-based classes, we will also continue to offer online classes on our Web Class platform.

From 29 June (Mon) onwards, physical classes and web classes will be charged at the same rate. Please see tables below for class details:

Physical Class:

Web Class:

Please let us know your preference when our Centre Staff contact you in the next few days so that we can finalize your child’s schedule. There will be some adjustment to the timing of our physical classes in order to implement the safe management measures, while a new timetable will be planned for our online lessons. Please take note that the teacher may be different from your child’s current teacher.

Once again, we appreciate your support in continuing your child’s learning with us during this challenging period of time and we look forward to welcoming you and your children at our Learning Centres very soon!

Lastly, we will also be sending another memo to you next week, outlining the safe management measures that we will be putting in place in our Learning Centres.

Please contact us at icrsgwebclass@icanread.asia or +65 6484 1271 should you require any further clarification.

Do take care of yourself and your family’s health as we all work together to provide a healthy and enjoyable learning environment for your children.

I Can Read Web-Class

Once again, we greatly appreciate your support in continuing your child’s learning with us during this period of lesson suspension at our I Can Read centres.

As you are aware, to combat the spread of Covid-19 with greater effectiveness, the Multi-Ministry Taskforce has extended the Circuit Breaker period by another four weeks till 1st June 2020. This would mean that enrichment centres like I Can Read will have to continue with online lessons during this period. Please be assured that we remain committed to ensuring your child’s learning journey with us is enriching.

Since the launch of I Can Read Web Class programme on 3rd April 2020, about 70% of our student base have signed up and attended the online lessons. From the recently concluded customer survey, we are also very pleased to know that the approval rating of the programme exceeds 70%. The ICR team is extremely thrilled that the programme has been well-received by all stakeholders. We have also gathered valuable feedback and have identified a few areas of improvement. For example, many parents have commented that the duration of some of the levels could be longer than the current 45 minutes, among others. We have considered your feedback and are making some changes to the programme going forward, as outlined below.

Duration for Web Class

The current lesson duration for each level as indicated below will continue until 30th April 2020:

From 2nd May 2020 onwards, the lesson duration will be changed as follows:

We will be making some adjustments to the current timetable, but to minimise the disruption to your schedule, the web classes will be held on the same day, at a similar time as your child’s current physical lessons at our centres. Please log on to the web class platform to check your child’s schedule on 1st May 2020.

Resources for Primary English Programme Classes

In response to parents’ and teachers’ feedback on the need for additional resources, we will provide
  1. a link for you to download the weekly PEP Worksheets. Please print these Lesson Worksheets before lesson proper for lessons starting from 2nd May 2020 onwards.
  2. additional Video Lessons based on part of our weekly worksheets for all our Primary English Programme (PEP) students. These video lessons will be made available for downloads from 2nd May 2020 onwards.
PEP students will be furthered notified on the links to download Lesson Worksheets before the lesson and the Video Lessons after the lessons.

Resources Pre-Reading, Reading and Pre-Primary Student Classes

Most students will have the necessary books distributed to them when joining these classes for the first time. Certain Reading Classes students may need new books and certain Pre-Reading and Pre-Primary students may have been promoted during this period and not received their books. While the student resources required for web classes are already made available on the web class platform, we recognize that it may be more effective for students to have some of the materials readily available in physical format.

For many students in Reading and Pre-Reading courses, we have done one round of issuance via courier service to your residence in cases where you were unable to collect the materials before the centre closure. We did face certain challenges with the tight resources situation in the Logistics industry. We have engaged more courier service providers to step up the delivery of these books to ensure that all students will receive their books as soon as possible.

Address and Email

To ensure that we are reaching you at the correct email and residential addresses, we need to have your updated residential addresses and email accounts in our system. It would be greatly appreciated if you can log on to the Student Portal to check and confirm this information by 28th April 2020 via https://cenopsys2.icanread.asia/auth/student_login.

If you need any assistance, please contact our Centre Staff who are working from home during the Circuit Breaker. You can reach them via the Centre Email and Centre Number, which will be automatically directed to our staff.
Please refer to https://www.icanread.asia/singapore/english/LocateUs for contact details.

Fees for Web Class

As communicated in March 2020, online lessons conducted from 3rd April to 30th April 2020 will be charged at a discounted rate of 50% of the normal course fees. This remains unchanged for students in Pre-Reading 1 and Pre-Reading 2 for the duration of the extended Circuit Breaker.

For the month of May, for Pre-Reading 3, Pre-Primary, Reading and Primary English Programme students, online lessons conducted will be at a discounted rate of 75% of the normal course fees.

A Credit Note will be issued separately for this purpose.

Moving Forward

If you have already signed up for the I Can Read Web Class programme, there are no further actions required at your end, except to ensure that your residential and email addresses with us are updated. We thank you for your support and welcome your valuable feedback.

If you are still not on our Web Classes and would like to sign up for the programme now, please submit your registration by visiting https://bit.ly/icrwc for a guide to complete a simple 3-step sign-up process. A gentle reminder that as part of the sign-up process, after you have created an account for your child, please inform us via https://bit.ly/icr_webclass so that we can place your child in the designated classes with the account that you have created. Please complete this early to avoid any disruption to your child’s lesson as the assignment of your child to their classes may take some time in the virtual classroom.

In addition to the guide to the sign-up process, you will also find other important information regarding I Can Read Web Class in https://bit.ly/icrwc, including some samples of web classes that we have conducted in other countries. Do follow us on our I Can Read Facebook page @icanreadsingapore and Instagram page @icanreadsg as we post more videos of our web classes.

I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize for some hiccups in the initial period when we move to web classes. We were temporarily overwhelmed by a few unforeseen challenges and fell short of our usual standards in technical support and customer service. We thank you for your understanding and patience with us as we strive to improve ourselves in both the academic as well as operational aspects of the programme.

Please drop us a note at icrsgwebclass@icanread.asia or contact our Customer Service team at +65 6484 1271 should you require any further clarification.

Do take care of yourself and your family’s health as we all work together to provide a healthy and enjoyable learning environment for your children.
