TEACHER SPOTLIGHT: PAUL AND SHAMALA

Teachers are the ones who set the tone for a class and create an environment that fosters learning.
Finding a good teacher is one of the most important things a parent can do for their child. I Can Read is pleased to introduce two wonderful teachers from our Jurong East centre who have shown exceptional commitment and dedication to their students – Teacher Shamala and Teacher Paul.

Teacher Shamala attended Middlesex University in England. She graduated with honors from the School of Arts with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Studies. Prior to joining I Can Read, she spent 4 years working at local schools here in Singapore. When asked to sum up her teaching ethos, she gave this quote from Ignacio Estrada, “If a child can’t learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” This really shows her dedication to a student-centered classroom. Out of the classroom, she loves traveling, photography, nature and cute furry animals.

Teacher Paul is one of our most experienced teachers. He studied at London Teacher Training College, Kaplan Singapore and International House Sydney. He holds a TESOL Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, a TYLT Certificate in Teaching English to Young Learners & Teenagers and a TESOL Certificate IV in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. He began teaching in 2011. He taught in China before moving to Singapore and since his arrival, he has worked in a variety of tuition and private education centers around the island. In class, he encourages his students to do their best and to reach their full potential. This mentality shows in his is favorite teaching quote. “Remember, you are stranger than you seem, braver than you believe and smarter than you think you are.” Out of class, Paul loves a good book, spending time with his family and cars.
